Dongle not working?
Try these tips to get your dongle working:
- Check that the red light on your dongle is still on (if it's not on, the battery may be dead).
- Try changing the USB port you're using. Check that the USB port is active by plugging in a mouse or other hardware and making sure it works, before plugging in your dongle.
- Run the Licence Manager, which is installed in the same location as Leapfrog.
- Restart your computer.
- Uninstall Leapfrog, then reinstall it by downloading Leapfrog from our website.
A helpful short cut when drawing with polylines.
When using the polyline feature in Leapfrog Mining, you can use the right mouse button to click out of the 'edit' mode instead of clicking on the cursor icon.
Do you offer research licences?
Yes we do, these are generously discounted and are subject to approval following application. Take a look at the check list and see if you could apply:
- Licence usage must be managed by a Dean, Key Lecturer or Faculty Head committed to 3D geological modelling.
- The University and Faculty should be well respected internationally; have a strong offering in economic geology and offer both undergraduate and graduate courses.
- The research details, including aims, objectives and timeline should be clearly outlined.
If you feel you're eligible please complete the initial online application form or find out more on the research licences page.
Common issues with graphics cards
Switchable graphics
Laptops often have two graphics cards: a high powered card (often NVIDIA or AMD) and a lower powered integrated graphics chipset, which is used by your laptop to save power.
The high powered graphics cards are normally set automatically to be used for 3D programs. Sometimes, however, the graphics cards aren’t set correctly. There are different processes to change the settings for each type of graphics card.
You may have to manually enable your graphics card for use when running Leapfrog, by making a change in the graphics card control panel. This can normally be accessed by right clicking anywhere on the desktop and clicking on graphics card control panel.
Graphics test
Leapfrog has an in-built graphics test which can be run to determine whether your setup may have trouble running Leapfrog to its full potential. To access the graphics test open Leapfrog and click Help > Test Graphics. If your computer fails any of these tests, you will get the option to save a report.
In case of a failed test a good place to start is updating your video drivers (see 'updating your video drivers'). If your computer still fails the graphics test after updating the video drivers, you will need to send the saved graphics test report to your local Leapfrog Support. Please also send us your System Info, which can be accessed by opening Leapfrog and going to Help > About > System Info. Copy all the text from this window and paste it into your email to us, along with the saved graphics test report.
Updating your video drivers
Leapfrog uses cutting edge technology to produce fast, smooth 3D visualisation of 3D geological models. To ensure that Leapfrog can make the best use of your computer we recommend that you keep your video card drivers up to date. From our experience this has resolved most of the graphics and visualisation issues that users have experienced with our software.
To find information about your video card open Leapfrog and go to Help > About > System Info. Scroll down to the OpenGL heading to find the video card Leapfrog is using. Then check what its driver date is by looking above the OpenGL heading.
Desktop computers
There are two major graphics card manufacturers: AMD and NVIDIA.
Laptops
Laptop manufacturers produce their own driver updates. In many cases these are the only drivers that will install on your computer. We recommend that you find driver updates for you laptop from the manufacturer’s website.
If up to date drivers are not available from your laptop manufacturer, you can use updates from the video hardware manufacturers: NVIDIA and Intel.
