The power behind Leapfrog

Leapfrog uses 3D interpolation technology. This new method of geological modelling is called implicit modelling. Implicit modelling, in contrast to traditional explicit modelling (i.e. digitising), does not require time-consuming manual creation and manipulation of polylines and polygons.

Fast Radial Basis Function

Leapfrog uses a recently developed rapid 3D interpolation engine (FastRBF™) to construct 3D boundary models from drill hole data and to solve geological modelling problems. To the layman, this means that Leapfrog has the power to handle vast amounts of information in super quick time.

ARANZ leap ahead with FastRBF™

FastRBF™ was developed by Leapfrog’s creators ARANZ Geo Limited, whose core competencies lie in the research and development of algorithms for scattered data and surface interpolation as well as sophisticated 3D visualisation. FastRBF™ allows scattered 3D data sets to be described by a single mathematical function. Isosurfaces of the function (represented as wireframes) can then be created for any value and at any resolution. RBFs are a natural way to interpolate scattered data, particularly when the data points do not lie on a regular grid and when the sampling density varies. This is why RBF interpolations are ideal for drill hole data.

This approach looks at geological modelling in a completely new and unique way; burgeoning on a paradigm shift. Leapfrog is currently the only product that uses this approach. Unrivalled and unequalled in the market. Literally leaps and bounds ahead of anything else.

Filling a gap in the market

And our approach isn’t the only thing that’s different. We use the simple analogy of a mine to describe where we position ourselves - Leapfrog lies in the gaping hole between GIS (Geographic Information System) and mine planning software, making it unique, focused and completely dedicated to geological modelling.

Several software companies that offer General Mining Packages are beginning to invest in implicit modelling, but we are already years ahead of this investment. We’re also nimbler, leaner and less encumbered than these companies. And we’ve come at the problem from a fresh angle and will continue to do so, as this is the Leapfrog way.
